There are a lot of factors that go into choosing the right school for your child. Every child is different, and it is important to most parents that they pick a school that fits best with their child’s unique personality and learning style. The Montessori Method of education was developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, who believed that a child-centered approach to learning helps physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development. Children in Montessori school learn in an environment that offers multiple aged groups with uninterrupted blocks of work time that is guided by a teacher. One of the many benefits of a Montessori education is that it offers a child a sense of community. This community helps a child to grow and become a part of the real world without difficulty.
One of the most unique traits about a Montessori School is that it supports “peer learning.” Unlike traditional school, age does not separate the students in a Montessori classroom. Students are placed in rooms with children of all ages. This is great for many reasons. Not only do the younger students learn from the older ones, but the older ones learn how to guide those around them while reinforcing what they already know. By helping each other grow, they are helping themselves grow as well.
It does not come as a surprise that this unique classroom set up benefits young learners. In the real world, we are constantly interacting with those around us no matter what age group that they fall under. In the end, we must learn to support one another and break the boundaries that separate us. This is exactly what a Montessori education can do for their students. If a child is brought up in a strong community, they will thrive in the one around them.
